  • CAASPP Scores are in!

     October 2015

     Dear Parent or Guardian,

Last spring, your child took part in the 2015 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), the new computer-based tests for English language arts/literacy and mathematics that replaced the former paper-based tests for these subjects.

These new exams are based on California’s new, more challenging academic standards, which are designed to help all students graduate ready for college and to pursue a career.

These tests require students to explain how they solve problems, think critically, and write analytically. These skills take time and effort to master, but our students will need them to succeed in the long run. We view these tests as an academic snapshot as they are a single measure of student progress.

The student score that was mailed home to you shows your child’s achievement on these new tests. You will notice that along with an overall score for each subject, there is also information about how your child performed in different skill areas associated with English language arts/literacy and mathematics.

These new tests and the standards they measure are very different from the old tests. The scores our students received this year are a baseline measure and we know they will continue to improve over time. Don’t be alarmed if the score is lower than previous CST scores n Language arts and math. The scores cannot be compared. We are very proud of the overall student scores our students achieved when compared with other districts. We scored in the top three in the county! Please visit our website to see our district scores compared to county and state averages.

For Parents of Students that were in Grades 5 and 8, for the 2014-15 school year:

To meet federal test requirements, California administered the California Standards Test (CST), the California Modified Assessment (CMA), and the California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) for Science to all students in grades five and eight. If your child was administered a science test, the results appear on the back of the student score report. While new assessments based on the Next Generation Science Standards are being developed, the California Department of Education will continue to use the CST, CMA, and the CAPA for Science.
